Eastern Cornbelt Plains Ecoregion

The Eastern Cornbelt Plains (ECBP) Ecoregion of Ohio was selected as the study region because of the availability of the biological and related data. Ecoregions are based on soil, land use, and geological characteristics.

In the ECBP (the orange region in the image of Ohio below), the land surface is flat and smooth, soils are alfisols and humic grey and the predominant land use is cropland. In addition, the predominant forest type is beech/maple forest and the primary land use is agriculture.
